General manager of the channel says, "the role of the US networks ... well, it's to make money first and foremost, but they do so through programming that is always aspirational. You'd never get a dark, unpleasant thriller like State of Play on US TV in the same style, the closest you'd get is something like 24 and that's still shiny and positive. US networks also work on the premise that if something is successful, you just keep making it. I remember being asked why we didn't make another series of Pride and Prejudice."
